Job Summary: The Scholarship Coordinator oversees the data management, awarding, distribution, and notification of all scholarships awarded University campus-wide to students through a comprehensive network of in-state chapters of the National Alumni Association. Serves as the administrator of the scholarship programs for the NAA’s in-state chapters within the Alumni Scholarship Department for those scholarships to be awarded to students enrolling in departments University-wide. Collects data and manages the in-state programs. Reviews and critiques student applications. Makes decisions regarding the eligibility of scholarship applicants. Determines the appropriate category(ies) of each scholarship applicant. Selects scholarship recipients. Determines scholarship values based on financial status of the fund. Justifies scholarship awards.


Additional Department Summary: The Scholarship Coordinator oversees the data management, awarding, distribution, and notification of all scholarships awarded University campus-wide to students through a comprehensive network of general endowments (including athletics and housing) and out-of-state chapters of the National Alumni Association. Serves as the administrator of the scholarship programs for the NAA’s general endowments and out-of-state chapters within the Alumni Scholarship Department for those scholarships to be awarded to students enrolling in departments University-wide including entering freshmen, transfer students, currently enrolled undergraduate students, UA Early College applicants, and graduate students. Collects data and manages the in-state programs. Reviews and critiques student applications. Makes decisions regarding the eligibility of scholarship applicants. Determines the appropriate category(ies) of each scholarship applicant. Exercises judgement in the selecting of scholarship recipients. Determines scholarship values based on financial status of the fund. Justifies scholarship awards. Works in collaboration with other on- and off-campus entities (Undergraduate Admissions, UA Early College, Athletics, schools and college divisions, Office of Financial Aid, chapter representatives, donors, etc.) to disseminate information regarding student applicants and fund accounts.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience with scholarships or financial aid.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with different cultures and age groups. Strong computer skills and knowledge to include basic desktop computing skills (Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and general knowledge of Banner, On-Base, ARGOs and ASAS (Alabama Scholarship Awarding System). General financial accounting skills. Ability to review and analyze basic financial reports along with institutional services such as Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Purchasing. Experience in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Ability to utilize Banner, E-print and Concur in budgeting and accounting for supplies, promotional, operational, travel and other expenses related to all aspects of the Alumni Scholarship Department program.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Banner (budget, student information, financial aid, scholarships), ASAS (scholarships inputting, record retrieval, imaging, and awarding), ARGOs (report and records retrieval, inputting) and Denny / Blackbaud (UA database), Concur, and Singularity / Hershey (scholarship inputting and imaging) programs.
