Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm
Job Summary: The Accounting Assistant III maintains accurate financial records. Provides accounting and bookkeeping support. Assists University staff in understanding industry standards, current laws, and university policy as it relates to the financial affairs of the University. Provides guidance, trains, and/or may train entry-level Accounting Assistants.
Additional Department Summary: Assists the MTE Department Head, faculty, and other departmental and college personnel. Maintains financial ledgers and spreadsheets. Reconciles all departmental state and grant funds. Prepares monthly financial statements for department head and faculty members. Makes recommendations to the Department Head concerning budget matters and other departmental procedures. Works with various offices on campus regarding the departmental research and gift fund accounts. Prepares all student Personnel Action forms. Coordinates work assignments among other departmental staff and student worker(s) when necessary, and numerous other tasks as necessary.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR associate's degree and two (2) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR bachelor's degree.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic setting, research and prepare comprehensive reports, work at a rapid pace with numerous interruptions, cope with stressful conditions, and demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Ability to work independently, yet think and plan strategically as part of a team. Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills are critical, and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks are essential. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including but not limited to Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications: Bookkeeping and/or accounting experience of reconciling budgets (state and/or grant funds). Experience using specific UA systems (Banner, Concur, Everest, Astra, CIM, CLSS, Slate, etc.). Knowledge of the University's financial accounting, purchasing, and travel policies and procedures.
