Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
Additional Department Summary: Conduct research on a federally funded research study in the Psychology Department at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. This is a longitudinal study investigating early cognitive decline over the late teen to early adult years in Down syndrome. Manage the daily activities of the project at the UA site, including training and supervision of student researchers, participant recruitment, and data management. Participate on the assessment team, assist with preparing sIRB and NIH progress reports, and participate in data interpretation and dissemination.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Psychology or a related field.
Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent computer skills, including Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications: Interest in Down Syndrome research. Experience working with people with disabilities. Experience administering standardized assessments for research. Excellent scientific writing skills with record of scientific publication.
