Job Summary: The Physician Assistant provides clinical services to assist physicians within their specific scope of expertise. Assists and instructs students in clinical research.
Additional Department Summary: Provides clinical services for University Medical Center Resident Clinics. Responsible for independent decision making in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists faculty physicians and family medicine resident physicians. Works to improve efficiency, organization, and patient/clinic flow. Manages day-to-day operations, resolves issues, and contributes to the improvement of quality of care, as well as patient and provider satisfaction.
Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations that create a more hospitable and respectful workplace and safe work environment. Has personal accountability and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA/CCHS policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Physician Assistant (PA) License in the State of Alabama in good standing. Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate (ACSC) and United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License or qualified to apply for one.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to perform patient care as directed by a physician or other qualified medical professional. Knowledge of electronic health record systems. Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively with student patients, faculty, staff and other health care professionals. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to maintain strict confidentially of protected health information and follow HIPAA regulations at all times.
Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of broad or specialized professional experience as a Physician Assistant. Prior experience as a member of a treatment team in a primary care ambulatory environment. Experience supervising clinical operations and staff.
