Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.
Additional Department Summary: The Biological Sciences Department at the University of Alabama is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral position. This position conducts research with various faculty members on a variety of projects. Designs and conducts experiments. Analyzes and publishes datasets. Presents research at conferences or workshops. Works collaboratively with other lab members and partners. Contributes to grant proposals or reports.
Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area or areas covered by the College. The College and/or the Biological Sciences Department will establish a series of structured merit-based evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, Marine Sciences, or related field.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of statistical techniques and protocols to assess primary production, organic matter decomposition, marsh surface elevation change, and/or ecosystem responses to disturbance.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with coastal wetlands and field-based research on ecosystem functions. Record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and strong data management and statistical analysis skills. Experience with field and laboratory work.
