Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some nights and weekends.


Job Summary: The Veteran and Military Affairs Compliance Manager oversees GI Bill Compliance for the University. Provides all required Federal and State Compliance documentation to the Veterans Administration at the State and Federal levels and the Alabama State Approving Agency for all program approvals within the University. Reviews all University and department websites to ensure compliance with all approved Catalog Submissions to the State Approving Agency. Works with other departments across campus to ensure GI Bill compliance standards are in line with Federal and State Legislation and all Veterans Administration policies, regulations, and rules as determined by the VA and State Approving Agency.


Additional Department Summary: Serves as a School Certifying Official and to provide parents and students with information regarding the many options available under the Veterans Administration Educational Benefits. Provides timely, accurate, and complete certifications within the VA Once system. Interfaces with the staff in Student Receivables and Academic Records as well as with academic advisers across campus. Completes required training related to UA policies/procedures and laws/regulations that create a more hospitable and respectful workplace and safer work environment. Has personal accountability for financial reporting. Establishes, enforces, and follows internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of veteran affairs experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of veteran affairs experience. Must obtain clearance and be authorized by the Veterans Administration on a yearly basis to become and remain an active SCO (School Certifying Official). Must attend all VA and SAA Compliance Training.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work and interact with complex enterprise management systems - Banner (Student Receivables and Academic Records components) and VA Once (Federal VA benefits certification). Demonstrated aptitude for counseling and explaining complex federal regulations. Proficiency in the usage of personal computer and standard applications software (word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management programs). Good organizational, communication and public relation skills are required. Ability to multi-task and. Excellent communication skills. Detailed oriented. Ability to work independently and use professional judgement. Ability to identify and seek out resources when additional knowledge is required for unusual situations (UA staff, VA state, VA regional). Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a VA School Certifying Official. Knowledge of veterans benefit programs. Ability to perform complex financial calculations.
