Position Summary
Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.
Detailed Position Information
This position is a one-year appointment. A successful candidate for Visiting Assistant Professor will have earned their Ph.D. in educational research (or in a related field with a specialization in quantitative methods), have teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s), and demonstrated potential to conduct high-quality research leading to publication. The Department of Educational Studies houses a flourishing educational research program that offers a PhD in Educational Research and Certificates in Quantitative Research, Qualitative Research, and Measurement/Psychometrics for graduate students. A successful candidate will join 7 quantitative research faculty and a vibrant and active qualitative research community, which includes faculty and doctoral students from across the university. The work norms for the position are structured to fit what is required of our teaching faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 4 classes in quantitative methods each semester (80% teaching allocation) with the remaining 20% of their work time devoted to service to the Department, College, and University.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in educational research or in a related field with a specialization in quantitative methods (i.e., 18 hours of graduate-level coursework in research methodology); or ABD with scheduled dissertation defense date during the Fall of 2024 semester.· Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative research methods and educational research design, including single-subject research;· Evidence of ability to conduct research leading to publication;· Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s);· Evidence of teaching effectiveness;· Ability to teach introductory quantitative research courses to graduate and undergraduate students.· Ability to work with students and faculty in a variety of disciplines;· Excellent writing and communication skills; and· Demonstrated commitment to valuing varieties of perspectives in research and teaching.
