Job Summary: The Network Engineer IV supports the functionality and availability of enterprise-wide mission critical University networks by performing network engineering and under close supervision. Performs high-complexity operational network management and maintenance tasks. Participates in network problem identification, analysis, and resolution for high-complexity problems. Leads and contributes to strategy, planning, and design of the campus and wide-area networks. Provides guidance, training, and/or supervision to other Network Engineers.


Additional Department Summary: Designs, implements, and maintains the network infrastructure within a data center that is specifically dedicated to high-performance computing (HPC) workloads using Cisco and cluster interconnect-specific technologies. Ensures optimal data transfer speeds, reliability, and scalability for computationally intensive applications while prioritizing network performance optimization and troubleshooting connectivity issues.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and four (4) years of network engineering experience; OR bachelor's degree and six (6) years of network engineering experience; OR associate's degree and eight (8) years of IT experience to include six (6) years of network engineering; OR High school diploma or GED and ten (10) years of IT experience to include six (6) years of network engineering.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Skills and Knowledge: Advanced understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, etc.). Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) for network automation. Familiarity with HPC systems and their unique network requirements.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with data center network design and implementation. Experience with Cisco switches and routers. Experience supporting customer head-ins/interconnects into an MDF. Expertise in high-performance networking technologies like InfiniBand, including fabric management and troubleshooting. Understanding of parallel computing concepts and how they impact network design. Familiarity with HPC job scheduling systems and their interaction with network infrastructure. Familiarity with Globus data transfer solution.
