Job Summary: The Accounting Assistant II maintains accurate financial records. Provides accounting and bookkeeping support. Assists University staff in understanding industry standards, current laws, and university policy as it relates to the financial affairs of the University. Provides guidance and trains entry-level Accounting Assistants.
Additional Department Summary: Provides administrative support for the Alabama Center for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (ALA-AI). Manages budgets, reconciliations, and procurement. Coordinates events, travel, and reporting; and supporting other operational needs. Oversees the Center’s online presence and communications, including digital learning resources, social media, newsletters, and outreach materials, while ensuring alignment with UA branding. Contributes to building and maintaining partnerships across academic, industry, and institutional stakeholders. Assists with reports and presentations to strengthen engagement.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR associate's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Proficiency in using personal computers and standard application software (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), with some advanced proficiency in Excel. Strong organizational, communication, and public engagement skills, particularly in managing social media and online learning platforms. Punctual, reliable, and committed to providing excellent written and verbal communication as well as customer-friendly service. Skilled in efficient and accurate computer and data entry. Ability to coordinate multiple events and activities simultaneously. Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment and to engage effectively with stakeholders, including researchers, students, and external partners. Capable of researching and preparing comprehensive reports. Ability to work productively in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions, while demonstrating tact, versatility, adaptability, and a high degree of self-motivation and initiative.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with University of Alabama systems such as Concur, Banner, and BuyBAMA. Familiarity with UA’s financial, travel, and purchasing policies and procedures, particularly as they relate to event coordination, guest speaker arrangements, and operational support for academic centers.
