Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor II provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance and trains entry-level advisors. May teach compass course as needed.


Additional Department Summary: Advises undergraduate students daily to discuss academic, personal and pre-professional concerns, registration, and degree progress using a variety of reporting tools and maintenance of appropriate records. Oversees various coordinating responsibilities, programs and activities for undergraduate students in the college. Advises students with a focus on exploration, goals, adjustment and first year concerns. Meets with prospective students and parents providing guidance and information on the college, its majors, campus life and student involvement. Provides assistance with new student orientation.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience; OR master's degree and some academic advising experience.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented. Advising with a focus on exploration, adjustment and student success. Ability to interpret student needs and determine appropriate recommendations and referrals. Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices related to academic advising. Ability to collaborate with various campus partners.


Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Experience with Banner and DegreeWorks.
