Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Financial Aid Loans oversees the processing of federal and private student loans.


Additional Department Summary: Assists Student Financial Aid administration through planning, implementation and management of federal and private educational loans processing and the debt and default aversion program established for Student Financial Aid. This position works directly with current and previously enrolled students at The University of Alabama by educating and advising them regarding their federal student loan responsibilities.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of student financial aid experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of student financial aid experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Financial aid experience at a major university to include a thorough knowledge of federal student aid programs is required.


Skills and Knowledge: Working knowledge of PC applications to include word processing, spreadsheet and database programs. Ability to comprehend complex regulations and interpret such to the general public. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required; must possess proven leadership ability and a customer service oriented philosophy; must be able to multi-task effectively.


Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, public relations, marketing, communications, education, counseling or related field; or a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with a minimum of one-year financial aid experience at a major university to include a basic knowledge of federal student aid programs.
