The position is classified as a 12-month Non-tenure Track Renewable Contract faculty within the Department of Psychology at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.


Detailed Position Information
The College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Alabama (UA) announces an opening for a Director of the Psychology Clinic, administered by the Department of Psychology. We seek a licensed clinical psychologist for this position. The position is classified as a 12-month Non-tenure Track Renewable Contract faculty within the Department of Psychology at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The Psychology Clinic provides psychological assessments and interventions conducted by clinical psychology doctoral students and faculty and provides consultation services to individuals and families. The Psychology Clinic serves a diverse client base, ranging in age from very young children to older adults. Clients consist of a mix of university students and staff, and members of the broader community. The Psychology Clinic Director will supervise clinic teaching assistants who conduct diagnostic evaluations, maintain a caseload of therapy clients, and provide consultation (e.g., individuals, families, schools). The Psychology Clinic Director will also provide supervision to clinical psychology practicum students working within the Clinic, in addition to those who might be performing evaluations at external sites through contracts with local agencies. There are opportunities for the Clinic Director to develop specialized training opportunities in their area of expertise. The Clinic Director will be responsible for the efficient operation of the clinic, including supervising staff, managing the budget, and overseeing the overall operation of the clinic. The Psychology Clinic offers clinical services Monday through Thursday (closed on Fridays for clients) and advanced clinic teaching assistants assist with on-site evening coverage.

The start date is flexible and does not need to adhere to the academic calendar. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and must be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the state of Alabama. Expertise in psychological therapy (with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral interventions) is expected. Experience in administration of common psychological tests (e.g., MMPI, PAI, BASC) is also required. Funds are available for continued professional development. The Clinic Director will also teach one class per semester including the summer semester (i.e., 1-1-1) with practicum supervision counting towards this teaching load.

The UA Psychology Clinic is situated on a large university campus. It collaborates with the University Medical Center, which provides opportunities for students to work in medical settings. The clinic benefits from renowned researchers in several disciplines across campus. This includes researchers in the areas of health, law psychology, child, and gerontology within the broader clinical psychology doctoral training program.

The University of Alabama is located in Tuscaloosa, AL, home of the championship Crimson Tide football team as well as the historic Bama Theatre, the Paul R. Jones Museum, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, the Tuscaloosa Farmer’s Market, and nearby Kentuck Festival of the Arts and Moundville Archeological Park.


Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and must be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the state of Alabama. Expertise in psychological therapy (with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral interventions) is expected. Experience in administration of common psychological tests (e.g., MMPI, PAI, BASC) is also required.
