Job Summary: The International Program Assistant Director develops, implements, and maintains study abroad programs, international partnerships, or international student services.
Additional Department Summary: Reporting to the Director of Education Abroad, the International Program Assistant Director oversees study abroad operations and provides leadership to the advising team to advance the mission and vision of UA’s Education Abroad department through collaboration with campus departments, faculty program leaders and international partners to provide academically sound, relevant, and safe study abroad programs and exceptional student advising services.
Manages day-to-day operations of study abroad as it relates to student advising, pre-departure process, returnee procedures, campus reporting, and academic integration. Interprets and ensures adherence to UA, UA System, state and national policies and regulations as they relate to study abroad programs. This position must be knowledgeable of UA travel policies, risk management policies, academic registration and records protocols, financial aid and admission policies, as well as the professional standards for study abroad from NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Forum on Education Abroad Standards of Good Practice. This position supervises three full-time staff members. This position must also possess a knowledge and sensitivity to persons of different cultural backgrounds.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of international program management experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of international program management experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work with multicultural populations and a high level of interpersonal skills. Knowledge of international higher education systems and university structures. Ability to manage multiple tasks with highly demanding workload and under pressure of deadlines. Ability to organize and prioritize work without direct supervision, as part of a unit of professional staff members. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking in a variety of settings.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in an area related to international education. Experience living, working or studying overseas. Prefer 3 – 5 years of experience working in international education, in particular study abroad programs, including exchanges, faculty-led, and provider programs.
Experience with Terra Dotta Software and Banner Student Information System.
