Normal Work Schedule: Flexible; Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, up to 20 hours per week, some evenings


Note to Applicants: This position pays $21.00/hour. This equates to $16,380 over 9 months (typically 08/01 to 04/30).


Job Summary: The Graduate Assistant for the Professional Development Program supports the Director of Staff Development in planning and implementing professional development initiatives for 275 staff members within the Division of Student Life.

Supports the Director of Staff Development with onboarding, staff meetings, events, and recognition activities. Develops assessment tools to guide decisions on programs, retention, and employee development. Researches current trends in staff development. Promotes and attends continuing education opportunities on campus, including those outside regular business hours. Aids in creating, executing, and assessing Student Learning Outcomes for 1,600 student employees. Provides administrative assistance and organizes event logistics. Creates marketing materials and manages event media. Serves as the speaker liaison and coordinates with presenters. Assists with event setup and execution. Works evening events as needed. Additional duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama graduate student. Experience with event planning and execution. Flexibility to work evening events as needed.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in creating marketing materials and event media. Ability to develop and assess learning outcomes. Familiarity with inclusive hiring practices and staff development strategies. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Majoring in Higher Education Administration, Communications, or related program. Event or project management experience. High quality communication skills (public speaking, written communication, media, marketing, etc.). Relationship and rapport building skills. Creative, reliable, and willing to learn.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year:  Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
