Job Summary: The Institute for Social Science Research is seeking motivated and organized Undergraduate Research Assistants to assist with various administrative tasks at the front desk. This position is ideal for students interested in gaining valuable experience in a research-oriented environment while supporting faculty and staff in their research efforts.


Additional Department Summary: The Undergraduate Research Assistants serve as the first point of contact at the front desk, greeting visitors and helping as needed. Perform basic computer data entry to maintain and update research databases. Run errands across campus, including delivering documents and materials to faculty and staff. Assist with printing, copying, and organizing research materials. Support faculty and staff with various research-related tasks, including literature reviews and data collection. Complete basic office administrative tasks, such as filing and organizing documents. Acquire IRB training certification and adhere to ethical research practices. Collaborate with team members and under the direction of ISSR’s Administrative Assistant to ensure smooth office operations.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in basic computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Majoring in social science or related field.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
