Job Summary: The Day Camp Assistant plans and implements quality leisure activities for children at the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority summer day camp.
Provides good instructions and leadership, maintaining a safe and secure environment for the students. Oversees assigned activity periods. Oversees students at all times. Fosters positive communication with parents, families, and guardians. Works within the guidelines for discipline set up by PARA. Maintains equipment in good condition. Cleans bathrooms and other areas as necessary in school locations. Maintains a neat personal appearance at all times. Adheres to all policies and procedures as established in PARA Employee Handbook and Administrative Handbook. Additional duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to swim. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year college or technical school; OR one (1) year employment with PARA in related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Current valid Alabama Driver License and CPR Certification.
