Normal Work Schedule: Varies; Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, 10 to 20 hours per week, some early mornings, late nights, and weekends

Job Summary: The Graduate Student Assistant creates, assesses, and implements divisional programs and campus-wide initiatives for the Division of Opportunities, Connections and Success (OCS). Conducts research. Assists in student staff training and development. Assists with daily office management. Facilitates campus-wide presentations on the roles and responsibilities of OCS. Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Programming and Engagement.
Additional Department Summary: The Division of Opportunities, Connections and Success promotes access and engagement for everyone in the UA community and offers three primary initiatives to help prepare all students and employee for success on campus and beyond.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama graduate student for the 2025-2026 academic year. Completed a bachelor's degree. Good academic standing and ability to maintain a minimum of 2.50 cumulative GPA. Ability to work 20 hours per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week during the summer semester. Ability to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends for events. Ability to lift to 20 lbs.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to change quickly. Ability to enforce and maintain confidentiality requirements and sensitive information with the Division of Opportunities, Connections and Success and University per FERPA. Strong organizational and keyboarding skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and iOS systems. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to use good judgment and exercise discretion. Ability to collaborate. Effective analytical and detail-oriented skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Students from higher education/student affairs, RHM (restaurant and hospitality management), public relations, and communications graduate programs are encouraged to apply. Experience in event planning, hospitality, project management, and leadership related to group/teamwork. Ability to work during the summer and fall to assist in the creation and implementation of the Division of Opportunities, Connections, and Success’s Week of Welcome, Movie Series, and other series and events that fall within the divisional programming and engagement model. Ability to quickly familiarize with Microsoft Office Products (Planner, Team, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as iOS Systems such as Keynote, Pages, etc., OneDrive, Google Drive, and UA Box.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
