Job Summary: The Broadcast Engineering Assistant assists the Broadcast Engineering and Tech Services team with tracing and documenting audio, video, and broadcast network cable/wiring connections throughout the Digital Media Center. Creates documentation for the broadcast and production facilities. Takes pictures of equipment in Central Equipment Room (CER) racks and uses a spreadsheet to write down input/output connections. Traces each cable to its destination or source. Enters information into a program that will aid the Director of Engineering & Technical Services in creating CAD drawings.
Additional Department Summary: The Broadcast Engineering Assistant works in the Central Equipment Room (CER). The CER is kept to a temperature between 66 to 68 degrees, so a hoodie or jacket is recommended.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Ability to follow directions and technical instructions. Ability to work well with others. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent customer service skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with UA staff, faculty, alumni, and students. Strong time management skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of CAD programs.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
