Job Summary: The Manuscript Processing Student Assistant will assist the Congressional Processing Archivists by processing, arranging, preserving, and describing the manuscript collection of Senator Richard C. Shelby. This position also includes team leadership responsibilities. All work will be managed by University Libraries Special Collections staff.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to multitask effectively and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Familiar with formats held in Special Collections libraries. High degree of adaptability. Effective time management skills.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong attention to detail. Ability to work on tasks independently. Ability to learn new and complex tasks. Competency with Microsoft Excel. Strong organizational skills including filing items according to established organizational structure. Familiarity with basic archival concepts.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with archival processes or archival research. Prior work experience in a library or cultural heritage institution. Familiarity with Special Collections research. Ability to work consecutive semesters.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
