Job Summary: The Athletic Grounds Student Assistant assists with pregame set up, game day operations, and post-game break down for football, baseball, and softball. Assists full time staff with the day-to-day operations of the ground’s maintenance crew. Assists Director of Sports Fields with regularly assigned tasks. Helps respective field manager as needed during scheduled shift. Restocks refrigerators in Grounds Shops with drinks. Performs light cleaning/organizational tasks around Grounds Shop. Fills up turf equipment with fuel. Cleans equipment as needed. Assists with general groundskeeping duties such as walk mowing, string trimming, edging, and blowing.


Additional Department Summary: Below are job duties based off the sport. 

Football

  • Assists full time employees with painting by holding/moving paint shields, filling up painters, cleaning up paint machines, etc. Puts up and takes down National Championship flags, SEC team flags, and USA and state slags. Sets up and breaks down the field (sideline rugs, trash cans, game equipment, etc.) Picks up trash/debris post football games and practices. Resets the facility.

Baseball/Softball

  • Assists in gameday preparation (sweep edges, raking dirt and warning track, cover/uncover bullpens). Drags infield dirt with stiff prior to game starting and during the game. Prepares and repairs each bullpen prior to and at the conclusion of games and practices.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama student. Ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Ability to work night and weekend hours once sports begin. Excellent communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Previous work experience. Open availability. Positive references.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
