Job Summary: The Technology Student Assistant supports the computer labs and other technology initiatives for the College of Arts and Sciences. Assists with computer lab maintenance tasks. Installs and configures software. Diagnoses and repairs hardware. Erases machines. Picks-up and delivers technology across campus. Assists with the Academic Continuity Initiative, which provides eligible Arts and Sciences Faculty and Staff with an iPad. Sets-up and supports these devices via email, phone, video conferencing, and in-person appointments.


Additional Department Summary: Provides applicants with the opportunity to learn remote management tools such as PDQ Deploy, PDQ Inventory, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), JAMF, Apple School Manager, and Global Service Exchange (GSX) for managing Windows and Apple devices.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Maintains a minimum of 2.25 cumulative GPA or higher. Experience with software installation, configuration, and maintenance.


Skills and Knowledge: Familiarity with Windows, macOS, and iPadOS. Software and hardware troubleshooting skills. Basic understanding of remote management tools. Eagerness to learn SCCM, PDQ, and Jamf Pro. Aptitude to learn new things. Dependability and capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications: Strong understanding of Windows OS, macOS, iPadOS, computer hardware, and peripherals. Technical support background. Scripting experience. Public speaking and customer support skills. Help desk, network troubleshooting, and audiovisual support experience.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
