Job Summary: The Alabama Water Institute (AWI) is seeking a creative and motivated Multimedia Intern to join their Communications Team. The Multimedia Intern focuses on video and audio production outreach by capturing and editing engaging video and podcast content for use in AWI’s storytelling, social media, and other marketing efforts.


Additional Department Summary: Films and produces short videos for AWI’s social media platforms, showcasing events, faculty research, and community impact. Captures and edits footage at AWI-hosted events to create dynamic, informative video content. Extracts audio and video clips from long-form content (e.g., event footage, lectures, and podcasts) to develop shorter, targeted segments for online use. Collaborates with the Communications Team to brainstorm and create social media assets that effectively communicate AWI’s work. Assists with occasional writing tasks, such as social media captions and descriptions for video content. Participates in other media-related tasks as assigned, with opportunities to develop skills in a range of multimedia techniques.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student in good academic standing.


Skills and Knowledge: Understanding of audio and video production, including video and DSLR camera operations, filming and photography techniques, and proficiency with video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition. Familiarity with social media platforms including Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Basic audio editing skills. Creative storytelling skills. Ability to present academic research in an engaging and accessible way through visual media. Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Interest in refining editing skills. Experience with social media platforms and a passion for communication. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an enthusiasm for showcasing scientific research to the general public. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to work Fridays as needed.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
