Note to Applicants: Prior housing experience is not required. On-campus housing is not included as part of compensation. Work schedule will accommodate Summer classes and exams. Part-time or full-time options for up to 40 hours per week. Must be willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Required dates are 05/05/25 to 07/31/25 with training beginning 5/05/2025. Attendance is required.


Job Summary: The Summer Operations Assistant serves an integral role in Housing and Residential Communities guest relations, customer service, summer operations, facilities management, and administrative tasks for a group of attendees as well as new freshman orientation and summer school. Serve as a representative of The University of Alabama for thousands of students.


Additional Department Summary: Treats students, parents, guests, groups, and staff colleagues with courtesy and respect. Responds to all questions, inquiries, and comments efficiently and effectively. Assists with emergency coverage of the Area Desk as necessary. Prepares area keys and documents for opening and closing. Inspects and prepares rooms for opening and closing. Checks in/out residents, guests, and groups. Completes inventory reports for the area as assigned. Completes damage reports for the area as assigned. Assists with updating transition materials as needed or end of summer reports. Regularly present in the building and community. Knows all assigned groups. Provides high-level of service. Serves as a resource to the campus as needed. Serves as a role model to groups and guests. Dresses appropriately for the position at all times including while on-call. Adheres to and enforces all HRC policies and UA Student Code of Conduct. Maintains confidentiality regarding private or personal information of students, parents, groups, staff, and departmental needs. Educates groups on placing work orders to address facilities issues within the community. Coordinates health and safety inspections and occupancy reports. Creates and develops educational bulletin boards with appropriate Tuscaloosa County information, UA information, and Welcome signs. Responds immediately to ongoing facility and safety/security needs. Maintains appropriate security and use of keys and card access.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama student. Ability to take part in the provided mandatory training that begins on 05/05/25. Ability to work 05/05/25 to 07/31/25. Hospitality, positive attitude, willingness to serve, and ability to work in a team environment.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to be the forefront of customer service and maintain the high standards expected of a championship program. Ability to act cooperatively and coordinate efforts with peers to create a welcoming environment for all groups and guests. Ability to convey a positive environment. Ability to complete paperwork, tasks, and related details associated with summer operations in a timely manner.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
